Biography

Alessandra Viotti-Gilabert was born in Biella and trained in the multidisciplinary atelier of master Pippo Pozzi. After early work at the intersection of writing and the plastic arts, publishing artist's books and appearing at major international book fairs, her move to France in 2014 marked her definitive and exclusive transition to the visual arts.

Today she is a resident artist at the AccorsiArte Gallery. 2026 sees her at the centre of major events: from May to September her works are on show in Venice at the Castello-Arsenale space, alongside the 61st Art Biennale and the Cinema Biennale, followed in autumn by an exhibition in Rome curated by Daniela Accorsi.

Her career spans over fifty exhibitions across Europe and Asia. She has exhibited in venues of the highest standing, including the Grand Palais in Paris, the Metropolitan Art Museum in Tokyo, the Maru Art Center in Seoul, and prestigious institutional settings in Monaco, Barcelona, Athens, Rome, Milan, Turin and Bologna. Widely awarded internationally, her works are held in major permanent collections, including the Copelouzos Family Art Museum in Athens and the FIJLKAM Museum in Rome.

Her market position is well established: she holds an official Drouot valuation, is listed in the Dictionnaire des Artistes Cotés, and is featured in the prestigious Catalogo dell'Arte Moderna (CAM Mondadori-Cairo Edizioni), selected by the Critical Committee. Her standing is recognised by institutions of excellence: she is a member of the Fondation Taylor and of the Académie Arts-Sciences-Lettres in Paris, from which she has received two silver medals. Her work also enjoys broad international media coverage, in the press (Ouest-France, La Repubblica, Univers des Arts, among others) and on television.

Artistic Statement

"I create in a space where boundaries dissolve, where the real opens onto a symbolic dimension and white becomes a place of possibility. My practice does not describe the visible but investigates what precedes or runs through it. Each work is born as an act of listening and of risk, an attempt to give form to what is not yet fully speakable."

Artistic Approach

Alessandra Viotti-Gilabert's research explores universal, contemporary themes: from love to memory, from nature to the universe, to women's emancipation. Guided by the philosophy of "taking away to say even more", her work is a distilled synthesis of figurative essentiality and symbolic abstraction, an inner process in which the image does not represent but reveals. Her distinctive technique combines the fine line of ink with dense, velvety acrylic layers, illuminated by precious gold and silver pigments. The works come to life on historic formats of handcrafted Fabriano cotton paper (350 g/m²), with their characteristic frayed edges. In this vision, the paper's natural white is not a mere background but an absolute, generative space from which forms emerge like traces of pure energy.
